Off the back of a discussion we had in Salford about an article entitled 'Free Improvisation in Music and Capitalism: Resisting Authority and the Cults of Scientism and Celebrity', I thought I'd post this documentary which came up in conversation. The article positioned jazz improvisation as being resolutely opposed to the kind of avant-garde composition represented by the likes of John Cage. And yet here's something that puts them together rather well.
